Welcome to Germany – Home of Ocktoberfest and Sleeping Beauty
Oktoberfest, the world-renowned festival of Bavarian culture and merriment, traces its origins back to October 12, 1810. It’s was my chance to taste some truly superb local beers, dine on hearty German food, and listen to some traditional music. This place was crazy jammed packed. I saw way too many people throwing up before lunch time. But this Drunkenfest is not all about the beer, I wanted the food. There was tons of food ranging from Käsespätzle (made with cheese, potatoes, and onions), bratwurst with mustard, soft pretzels, and roasted chicken. But my trip to Germany was not for the 34 oz beers, but I had to find Sleeping Beauty’s Castle (aka Neuschwanstein Castle).
The castle is located at the southwest border of the German state of Bavaria. This iconic castle was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairy-tale King.” My picture was taken beyond the castle’s walls is Marienbrücke (Marie Bridge, named after King Ludwig II’s mother) the bridge which hangs over a waterfall and offers the most iconic views of Neuschwanstein. Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty’s and Cinderella’s Castle were both inspired by Ludwig’s beautiful creation. Bucket List – CHECK!!!
